Have you ever had to think of a solution that isn’t quite ‘text book’…. but it works!?
When we were asked to weather this new lift shaft with an EPDM material by our architect, I had to raise my concerns of how the new membrane would adhere to the existing flat roof (Bitumen felt).
Avoiding using a flame on site was a priority, so torching on felt wasn’t an option and aesthetically the architect wanted something more modern looking in appearance.
I therefore suggested that we weathered the timber structure to the roof using a cold applied liquid first, to which the architect agreed and accepted.
A timber facadè was then fitted on counter batterns which then allowed us to keep the EPDM separate and effectively act as a flashing detail to the liquid upstand below.
