We have been asked to investigate numerous leaks across a relatively new block of flats over in East London.
The main body of the the work (the slating) is satisfactory but like any roof it’s only as good as its weakest point.
The lead work to all abutment details has not been installed to ‘Lead Sheet Association Guidelines’ as the specification would have stated.
Front aprons and back gutters have all been ‘dog eared’ around corners.
Although we didn’t tender for these works it’s frustrating to think that we may have lost it based on quite literally ‘corner cutting’.
The fact that contractors are often awarded jobs based on being the cheapest, rather than experience, testimonials or legitimacy, is a huge reason as to why we spend as much as a third of our time carrying out remedial works.
